Gender mainstreaming
Working group in the Society for Evaluation
Gender mainstreaming is a cross-cutting strategy that serves to realize the legal mandate of gender equality. For evaluation, gender mainstreaming primarily means taking the gender dimension of the evaluation object into account appropriately. However, the development and consistent application of gender-sensitive methodology and data collection tools in the evaluation process is also a quality standard that is met through gender mainstreaming. These professional standards are discussed in the Gender Mainstreaming working group, including the DeGEval Standards for Evaluation.
The definition of the European Institute for Gender Equality - EIGE:
"Gender mainstreaming has been embraced internationally as a strategy towards realizing gender equality. It involves the integration of a gender perspective into the preparation, design, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of policies, regulatory measures and spending programs, with a view to promoting equality between women and men, and combating discrimination."
